A
Accidents
An occurrence associated with the operation of any public or civil unmanned aircraft system that takes place between the time that the system is activated with the purpose of flight and the time that the system is deactivated at the conclusion of its mission, in which: Any person suffers death or serious injury; or property damage other than the drone in excess of $500 to repair or replace the property.

AIM
Aeronautical Information Manual
Air Vehicle
Is a remotely piloted aircraft, which is of fixed-wing, rotor-wing, or lighter than air designs that fly without a human on board.
API
Application Programming Interface — a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other. APIs are an accessible way to extract and share data within and across organizations.
Auto Join
A function of the Mission Manager that enables the Ops Viewer, in Operations Hub, to view all live videos and telemetry information on the specific mission or all missions available in Operations Hub.
B
Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BLOS)
Aircraft that will or has traveled farther than can be visual line of sight.
C
Certificate of Authorization or Certificate of Waiver (COA or COW)
FAA approval of certain requested operations and conditions as specified in the Certificate of Authorization or Waiver
Class A Airspace
18,000 feet up to and including flight level (FL) 600.
Class B Airspace
Typically surface to 10,000 feet above airport elevation surrounding the nation’s busiest airports in terms of airport operations or passenger enplanements.
Class C Airspace
Surface to 4,000 feet above airport elevation surrounding those airports that have an operational control tower, are serviced by a radar approach control, and have a certain number of IFR operations or passenger enplanements.
Class D Airspace
Surface to 2,500 feet above airport elevation surrounding those airports that have an operational control tower.
Class E Airspace
Controlled airspace that is not Class A, B, C, or D.
Class G Airspace
Uncontrolled airspace – that which is not subject to air traffic control. Uncontrolled Airspace does not mean it is unregulated airspace.
Crewmember (sUAS)
A person(s) designated by the Remote Pilot in Command (Remote PIC) to assist the Remote PIC and the person manipulating the flight controls of the sUAS in the safe and efficient conduct of the UAS operation. This may include VO, launch or recovery personnel, and the like.
D
Data Link
Is the term used to describe how the UAS command and Control information is sent and received, both to and from the GCS and the aircraft.
DroneSense
An amazing company with great people that serve public safety UAS programs with an amazing software platform called DroneSense with superior customer support.

ESRI
The Company that owns the ArcGIS mapping and analytics software that many GIS planners utilize to generate custom maps.

FAA Accident Report
Is required to report an accident to the FAA within 10 days if it results in at least serious injury to any person or any loss of consciousness, or if it causes damage to any property (other than the UAS or drone) in excess of $500 to repair or replace the property (whichever is lower).

Ground Control Station or remote controller
GeoJSON
Supports the following geometry types: Point, LineString, Polygon, MultiPoint, MultiLineString, and MultiPolygon. Geometric objects with additional properties are Feature objects. Sets of features are contained by Feature Collection objects.
GEOPDF
A georeferenced PDF file, meaning that it is a Portable Document Format (PDF) file with added information that relates the image to coordinates on a map.
GEOTIFF
A public domain metadata standard that enables georeferencing information to be embedded within an image file.
GIS
Geographic Information Systems are computer-based tools used to store, visualize, analyze, and interpret geographic data. Geographic data (also called spatial, or geospatial data) identifies the geographic location of features.
GPX, or GPS Exchange Format
It is an XML schema designed as a common GPS data format for software applications. It can be used to describe waypoints, tracks, and routes.
Ground Control Station or Control Station
Provides human control of Uncrewed vehicles, serving as the human machine interface that allows control of the flight path of the sUAS.

Human Factors -
Examines research about human abilities, limitations, and other characteristics that apply to human interactions with equipment, human conditions such as fatigue, complacency, and stress as well as decision-making. The focus of the research is to understand how humans can improve the safety and efficiency of job performance, as well as the tools and systems they utilize.

ICS
Incident Command System is a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency responses providing a common hierarchy.
Incidents
An occurrence other than an accident, associated with the operation of an aircraft, which affects or could affect the safety of operations.
Incident Report
Within DroneSense, this provides a way to document any incident or accident that has occurred that may affect the organization's safety of operations, as well as any subsequent required reporting (FAA/COA/NTSB) that has been completed as part of the Agency/organization's Safety Management System or SMS.
Interoperability
The basic ability of different organizations or systems to readily connect and exchange information with one another.
ISOtherm
With some IR/Thermal Camera payloads the aircraft will have the ability to have custom temperature settings. For example, users looking for potential fires can ask the camera to automatically display images that contain high-temperature zones.

KML
KML is a file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth.

Magic Video Link (MVL)
Magic Video Link (MVL) allows you to share a direct video link for a given mission to stakeholders - even those who are not DroneSense users. It includes access to all streamed video for the mission but does not include other details, such as map telemetry and other pilot and drone information.
Map Layer Manager
In operations Hub allows to control which custom map layers are visible in Ops Hub, and on the Ground Control Station / Controller based on mission settings. This will include ESRI Layers and Imagery Layers.
MAVLink
Micro Air Vehicle Link is a protocol for communicating with small unmanned vehicles. It is designed as a header-only message marshaling library.
Mission Sharing Code
6 Digit/Alphanumeric code assigned to a specific mission that allows multiple agencies to work together and enables interoperability.
MSAT
Mobile Streaming and Tracking - Allows operators to stream their location and live video (optional) to a DroneSense Mission
MSL
“Mean Sea Level“ is your altitude above sea level. It's the average height above standard sea level where the atmospheric pressure is measured in order to calibrate altitude.

NASA ASRS
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Aviation Safety Reporting System provides voluntary aviation occurrence reporting of incident reports from pilots, Air Traffic Controllers, and others from the perspective of the reporter for both unsafe occurrences and hazardous situations. This reporting will confer conditional immunity from FAA Enforcement actions as a means of encouraging reports of lapses that would otherwise might not be known about. NTSB Report
A civil UAS operator must immediately and by the most expeditious means, notify the NTSB of an accident or incident. Organization ID (Org ID) - Unique assigned identifier given to an organization within DroneSense/Axon Air to identify their specific account.
Orthomosaic - a photogrammetrically orthorectified image product mosaicked from an image collection, where the geometric distortion has been corrected and the imagery has been color balanced to produce a seamless mosaic dataset.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules for small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or “drone,” operations cover a broad spectrum of commercial and government uses for drones weighing less than 55 pounds.

Is the sensor or a combination of sensors equipped to the Air Vehicle.

Preventive Maintenance
Simple, or minor adjustments or the replacement of small standard parts not involving complex assembly operations.
Q
QEP
Qualified Entities Program, is a program provided by DJI to allow public safety agencies the ability to fly in airspace that is restricted to the general public.

Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC)
A person who holds a current remote pilot certificate with an sUAS rating and has the final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the UAS.

Safety Culture
The way safety is perceived, valued, and prioritized in an organization.
Scheduled Maintenance
Periodic maintenance on aircraft at known intervals.
SDK
Software Development Kit (SDK) is a set of platform-specific building tools for developers.
SGI
Special Governmental Interest Waiver - Agencies responding to emergency situations may be eligible for expedited approval through our Special Governmental Interest (SGI) process. Applications to the Wavier requires your agency and/or pilot must be an existing Part 107 Remote Pilot with a current certificate OR you must have an existing Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA). SMS
Safety Management System is a systematic approach to managing safety, including the organizational structures, accountabilities, policies, and procedures.
SPOI
Sensor Point of Interest. This is a reference to the center point of the camera displayed on the map as a crosshair.
sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems)
An unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds, including everything that is on board or otherwise attached to the aircraft. Also see UAS

Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
Is a critical airborne system designed to alert pilots to nearby aircraft that may pose a collision risk and provide guidance on avoiding a potential collision. DroneSense provides TCAS through our Remote platform. For more information, view this article.
Terrain Following
The drone will continually adjust altitude to follow the contours of the ground rather than maintain a fixed altitude relative to the launch site location.

TX Logs
DroneSense has integrated log reporting, which allows Texas organizations to record additional data against one or more flight records to fulfill their reporting obligations.

UAS or Unmanned Aerial System or Small Unmanned Aerial System
Refers to an aircraft operated without the possibility of direct human intervention from within or on the aircraft. It comprises four main components: the air vehicle, data link, ground control station, and payload.
V
Visual Line of Sight (VLOS)
Visible with vision unaided by any device other than corrective lenses, the remote pilot in command, the visual observer, and the person manipulating the flight control of the small UAS must be able to see the aircraft.
Visual Observer (VO)
A person who is designated by the Remote Pilot in Command (Remote PIC) to assist the Remote PIC and the person manipulating the flight controls of the sUAS to see and avoid other air traffic or objects aloft or on the ground. They must Maintain Visual Line of Sight of UAS and maintain effective communication with PIC at all times.

what3words divides the world into 3-meter squares and assigns a unique combination of three words. The combination of words can be used in place of standard coordinate formats to share a location DroneSense has implemented this in the mobile app when dropping a marker on the SPOI and in DroneSense Remote.

XML
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that provides rules to define any data. Unlike other programming languages, XML cannot perform computing operations by itself.
XML Schema
Is a description of a type of XML document, typically expressed in terms of constraints on the structure and content of documents of that type, above and beyond the basic syntactical constraints imposed by XML itself.
