DroneSense Single Sign-On (SSO) is DroneSense's single sign-on solution, built on Keycloak identity and access management. This article explains what DroneSense SSO is, what to expect during a sign-in system upgrade, and what your organization's administrators should know before, during, and after the cutover.
What is DroneSense SSO?
DroneSense SSO is the system that handles sign-in for your DroneSense organization. As part of ongoing upgrades, DroneSense periodically migrates organizations to this system to improve sign-in reliability and support future features.
What to expect during the upgrade
Your organization will receive advance notice of a scheduled upgrade date and time. As part of this upgrade, each user will receive a one-time email from DroneSense to set their password on the new system. Users may keep the same password they use today.
What the password reset email will look like
- From: DroneSense <auth@dronesense.com>
- Subject: "Update Your Account"
- Action: Click "Link to account update" to set your password.
This is a legitimate DroneSense system email. If users don't see it, they should check their spam or trash folders.
What to expect
- A one-time email to each user instructing them to reset their password. The link is unique to each user and expires after 12 hours. If the link has expired by the time the user opens it, they can use the Reset Password option on the login screen to complete the process at any time.
- If your organization uses multi-factor authentication (MFA), users will need to re-enroll their MFA the next time they sign in.
- Users will need to sign back in on any device they normally use, including the DroneSense mobile and OpsHub mobile apps. No app update is required.
During the cutover window, users who are actively signed in when the cutover activates may be logged out and will need to complete the password reset before signing back in. Advise your team to avoid scheduling active operations during this window where possible.
What you do not need to worry about
- No changes to URLs, bookmarks, or links. Existing addresses continue to work.
- No changes to your data. All organization data, users, roles, and history are preserved.
- No action required from end users before the cutover. The password setup email is sent automatically when the cutover completes.
If a user isn't sure an email is legitimate
Users should not click a password-reset link they're unsure about. Instead, direct them to go to the DroneSense login page directly and use Reset Password there, or check with their organization's DroneSense admin.
Smart Controller Devices: Firefox Update Required
All smart controllers (Parrot, DJI, Autel) require an updated version of Firefox for Single Sign-On to work correctly. This applies to every smart controller, regardless of how many users sign in on it.
Skipping this step is a common cause of login issues on smart controllers. See Installing Firefox on Smart Controller Devices for the correct version and installation steps.
For Devices With Multiple Users
Some devices — including tablets, phones, and smart controllers — are shared by multiple users, each of whom signs in with their own DroneSense account. Not every device falls into this category. If a device is used by only one person, the setup below is unnecessary.
On devices where multiple users sign in, Firefox should be configured to open DroneSense links in a private tab, so that one user signing in doesn't sign out another user's active session.
Enable private tabs in Firefox
- Open the Firefox app.
- Tap the ⋮ (three-dot) menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Private Browsing.
- Enable Open links in a private tab.
If existing user profiles are saved in the controller, they should be removed, and the user should sign in after enabling Private Browsing.
Chrome for Android has no equivalent setting, and its "open in Incognito" option only works for links a user taps directly on a page — it does not apply when the DroneSense app opens the browser automatically for sign-in.
Shared devices with multiple DroneSense users should use Firefox for this to work seamlessly.
Alternatively, Chrome users can clear the browser cache between logins so the next user isn't signed in as the previous one.
