Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs)

The first thing to be aware of for your UAS operations is whether a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) will be in place at the event. TFRs are often put in place well in advance of the event, so there are often several resources to check:

• The FAA’s TFR Map
• Contacting your local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO)
• Contacting the FAA's System Operations Support Center (SOSC) in Washington, D.C.

If a TFR will be in place, you will need to process a TFR waiver. TFR waivers should be processed as far in advance of the event as possible. You can apply for the TFR waiver through the TSA/FAA AAP website: https://waivers.faa.gov/aap/te_pages.p_login

The controlling body of the event or facility will need to provide a letter on official letterhead stating the agency has permission to operate. This letter should be included in your AAP application, and copies of the TFR waiver should be given to all pilots.
