Per the United States Code Title 14 CFR 107.13, small unmanned aircraft being operated for the purposes of flight must comply with provisions of the United States Code Title 14 CFR 91.203(a)(2) which states:
"An effective U.S. registration certificate issued to its owner or, for operation within the United States, the second copy of the Aircraft Registration Application as provided for in § 47.31(c), a Certificate of Aircraft registration as provided in part 48, or a registration certification issued under the laws of a foreign country."
In order for an agency or individual to ensure compliance they must register their aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration via their website https://faadronezone-access.faa.gov/#/. The purpose of this support article is to provide a step-by-step guide on the registration process.
Once you have navigated to the FAA DroneZone website an account must be made. Click on the hyperlink button to create the account.
Once you have clicked that button it will take you to this page to create the account. It is recommended that an organizational account not be tied to one individual but a general account for the organization.
If your agency would like to issue all registrations and waivers under the agency instead of the DroneZone Administrator, be sure to enter your agency name under DBA on the 107 Account Information page.
Once the account has been created, follow the login process, inputting the user name and password created for the account. It will provide a System Use Notice, read, and click agree.
This will bring you to the FAADroneZone Services Page:
From this page, your organization can process aircraft registrations, or apply for and manage Operational Waivers and/or Airspace Authorizations. To access, click Launch Drone Owners and Pilots Dashboard. This will bring up the Part 107 Dashboard, to add aircraft to your inventory, click the Manage Device Inventory button.
Once on the screen, click Add Device to add aircraft to the inventory.
When adding your device, it will ask if the aircraft will broadcast FAA Remote ID information, click the yes or no radio button. If the aircraft does broadcast RID, click yes, or click no if it does not.
If yes, it will ask UAS Type, if the aircraft will broadcast RID on its own, click Standard Remote ID, if it will be broadcasting via a module, click Remote ID Broadcast Module.
Complete the required information. It is recommended that the aircraft Nickname mirror what is in your DroneSense account. Put in the manufacturer and model information and the aircraft remote ID serial number and click Add Device. (Note: For Standard Remote ID Serial Numbers, the first five (5) characters will be the manufacturer prefix.)
Once you have clicked add device, it will bring you to the Shopping Cart screen. From here you can either click Add Device to add another aircraft or if you are finished you can click Check Out.
Once you click Check Out it will bring the user to a page to input credit card information for payment. Once you submit that information you will come to an Acknowledgment of FAA Requirements page. Click the box marking that the user understands the requirements and click Next.
The next page confirms that you have registered the device. A copy of the registration will be sent to the email address on file for the account. It will remind the user that each aircraft will be assigned a unique registration number and must be marked on the aircraft before operation. A copy of the aircraft registration is required to be maintained with the aircraft.
The user also has the option to add a copy of the PDF document with the registration into the organization's DroneSense account hardware page for that aircraft. Additionally, the registration number can be added to the info on the drone details as well.
